- taking sustainability, which is too often onlypropagated, to the actual maximum
How does one reach the maximum of an environmentally friendly existence? Through symbiosis.
With this premise, we set out to concept a unique solution to the often-demanded re-localization of food production:
Consisting of two 6x3x2.5m stacked or next to each other modules, we present the two modular residential self sufficiency extension.
In coordination with experts from the relevant industries and some self-sufficient living persons, we managed to design a minimalistic and at the same time versatile concept, which combines
– the cultivation of crops,
– the upbringing of edible fish,
– processing facilities and
– green energy and it´s storage
– a potential additional reserve of drinking water
– as well as filtration capacities
all in one on a footing of necessarily not bigger than 18 sq m.
The so-called “aquaponics” combines the keeping of food fish with the cultivation of crops in aquaculture, whereby the excretions of the fish, which usually contaminate the water, provide nutrients to the plants, which ultimately enables the water to be completely purified, in contrast to conventional fish farming.
What is also enables is so-called “vertical farming”, which is becoming more and more widespread worldwide and is often seen as a defining component of the future of urban food production.
While challenges exist, the industry is learning and can add great values to dense living areas.
A great idea for Public Private Partnerships contributing to supplies security?
The advantages of using such a system are manifold, the most prominent of which are:
– Massive water savings compared to cultivation in the ground
– Plant growth accelerated up to four times
– Due to the closed water circuit, only what is put in is found
→ organic quality (altough not according to the EU)
Further components of the basic module are:
– various additional water filters which can also be used for rainwater
recycling
– Processing corner for hygienic processing of meat and fish
– additional cooling elements for maturation and storage
– envisioned full operation on solar energy, storage and infrared
